The NHL’s season-opening game, Sunday, Jan. 6, will be played at Staples Center in Los Angeles against the San Jose Sharks.
The next big game, slated for Feb. 1 against the Dallas Stars, will take place at Honda Center in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Kings.
In other words, the NHL has a long way to go to fill its 20-game schedule with home and away games.
That’s the reason the league’s owners are working on new games, which could be held in late 2019, early 2020 or early 2021.
“We want to make sure the fans have an opportunity to watch our games,” Commissioner Gary Bettman said Thursday.
“This is going to be a big, big deal.
