Putin’s hat is made in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s official hat is now made in the country, after an initial shipment of 400 hats was seized from a warehouse in St. Petersburg last week.

The Russian president’s office confirmed to CNNMoney that the hat was made in Moscow, and the price is $50.

The hat, which bears a striking resemblance to the president’s signature design, has now been made in St Petersburg, the Russian capital.

Russian hats are a common item of clothing and often sell for as much as $500, but the country’s flag carrier, the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, reported that the price has been slashed from $150 to $50 this week.

Russia has been embroiled in a number of high-profile corruption scandals over the past few years, with the country recently finding itself in the spotlight again when it was revealed that one of its richest men, Vladimir Khodorkovsky, is serving a 14-year prison sentence for tax evasion.

Putin has faced criticism over his popularity in Russia, with recent polls showing that nearly half of Russians do not approve of his leadership.
